The pieces of root will blend better with other pieces of herbs, spices, and tea than turmeric powder which will fall to the bottom of blends. Using the pieces ensures that every spoon of tea contains a similar amount of turmeric and that every tea slowly releases the turmeric at a similar rate. Steep turmeric for multiple infusions; it will continue to flavor your beverages until it disappears into small powder.
