Our Kumaon white tea hails from a previously forgotten tea region in India. Tea was first planted in the area in the 1850s but resources were funneled to the Assam and Darjeeling regions and areas closer to ports instead. Though the tea trees flourished in the area, the idea of creating tea estates in Kumaon was abandoned and the tea trees were left to grow on their own. In the 1990s, the government decided to revive tea production in order to revitalize rural livelihood. Kumaon tea not only tastes great but also creates jobs while giving recognition to the many family owned tea estates in the area.
For this Kumaon White tea, the top two leaves and buds are picked from the tea plant early in the season and minimally processed. It has a light sweetness, with a grassy aroma and slightly fruity flavor.
Brewing Suggestion: Brew 1 tsp per 8 oz of water at 160° to 170° for 2-3 minutes.
Origin: Kumaon, India
