A member of the ginger family, turmeric is easily identified by its bright orange-yellow hue which it lends to dishes.
Our turmeric is a single origin spice grown organically on one farm in southern India. It is hand-harvested, cleaned, steamed, sun-dried and ground fresh, while being primarily irrigated by rainwater. The result is an intensely flavored turmeric with hints of ginger and jasmine and a sweeter undertone.
Dr. Salunkhe, the farmer of this fragrant turmeric, goes literally the extra mile for this turmeric, passing closer grinder facilities in favor of better grinders and mortars. His choices from how to rotate crops to how to grind the turmeric are apart of his belief in the connection between the environment and people, and how the well being of one impacts the other.
Add turmeric to meat or vegetable curries, mix with cauliflower before roasting, season caramelized onions, or flavor chicken soup. Combine with limoo omani for stews, add to mustard, make curry chicken salad, or color rice. Turmeric blends well with cardamom, cinnamon, clove, chiles, ginger, and lemongrass. Try a turmeric tea by combining with citrus and cayenne or Golden Milk, a combination of turmeric and other spices like cinnamon and ginger.
